Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help with COVID vaccine efforts.
One reason for the difficulty in getting appointments is that there are just not enough vaccines available right now. As more vaccine doses become available, more appointments will open up. Some of the best ways to volunteer to help with the overall State and County efforts are listed below:
Support the COVID-19 SOMA Senior Support Fund
This fund, set up to help South Orange and Maplewood seniors with food, financial, transportation, and other support, has helped more than 100 residents since the onset of the pandemic. Donations can be made through Go Fund Me or by clicking here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/covid19-soma-seniors?qid=3855d52584b75a00de4feaa98 7bbad53
Volunteer with the County
The County is the lead on local vaccine efforts. It will take months to vaccinate Essex County residents. Consider volunteering to help by going to https://www.essexcovid.org/volunteers. As the county is working with FEMA to do their mobile pop-up vaccination clinics they may need volunteers so they will be tapping that county list. You can also offer to help the county by emailing EssexCOVID19@nulladmin.essexcountynj.org or calling the Essex County COVID Call Center at 973.877.8456. Mention also that you could volunteer at their call center if that would help people get registered for vaccine appointments.
Volunteer with the State
The State of New Jersey needs volunteers, including healthcare workers, for a full range of COVID efforts. Go to : https://covid19.nj.gov/search.html?query=volunteer to learn more.
Volunteer with the COVID Community Corps
The NJDOH Community Corps is looking for people who are 18 years or older, Comfortable reaching out to members of your community virtually and/or face-tod distribute official COVID-19 information from the state COVID Community Corps. Register for our March COVID Vaccine and NJVSS Training Workshop by clicking COVID Community Corp Workshop Registration (nj.gov)
Volunteer to Spread the Word
Vulnerable Populations Outreach Coordinator, Taliah Jeffers (tjeffers@nulltwp.maplewood.nj.us) can assist you with educational materials for vaccination outreach that have been vetted and approved by NJDOH, CDC, or other national public health communications organizations, and are ready to go for public use.
