Threat Management:
Safety is the District’s number ONE priority. To maximize safety, the District uses a threat assessment protocol to identify and prevent any targeted school violence. To learn more, please see Policy 2419. It is important that we as a district create a climate that encourages all members of our community to share information about safety concerns. This is the responsibility of all community members including students, families, staff and community members.
What is a threat or concerning behavior?
Concerning behavior is: an observable behavior that elicits concerns in bystanders regarding the safety of an individual or those around them. Concerning communication is: unusual, bizarre, threatening, or violent communication made by an individual or a group that elicit concerns for the safety or wellbeing of the individual or others.
How do I report a threat?
If someone has reason to believe that there is a safety risk, students, families and community members should use the concerning behavior reporting tool on the SOMSD website. Threats will be screened. If needed, the school threat assessment team will take part in a full assessment process to determine if additional steps are needed to support the student(s).
