The Redhawk Native American Arts Council’s performing artists have been sharing Native American dance, music, art and history. The program entertain, educate and foster a positive image of our nation’s first culture. They will be at Marshall School on May 10th to share the cultural traditions first-hand to our students and may even include some form of audience participation!
Third-graders at Jefferson Elementary School had the chance to write and display Guerilla Haikus through a program with Caley Vickerman, who was an artist in residence at the school the week of April 23.
The student council at South Mountain with the help of the local green team kicked off a school wide recycling program.
District seeks feedback on proposed regulations for new Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices, to take effect September 2018.
Circus Kids Productions met with the students over the course of a week where they chose from a selection of acts, practiced them over the week and rehearsed for the big show.
Tuscan School third grade students participated in a cross-curricular project based on the poetry of Nikki Giovanni.
Columbia High School filmakers and animators won at the 2018 Montclair Emerging Filmmaker Competition.
Photography students participate for the 13th year in a row in the annual Pingry multiple high-school photography exhibition in Pingry's Hostetter Gallery.
The Board of Education approved realignment of STEM courses on February 20, 2018. Dr. Ficarra declared that SOMSD must stop finding reasons to delay making changes which we know are necessary to ensure that SOMSD implements best practices which also result in integration, are based in research, and enhance instruction.
Tuscan School, along with other elementary school students from the South Orange-Maplewood School District, participated in the Maplewood Memorial Library’s Kids Speak Out event.
Fifteen South Orange and Maplewood residents, all students at Columbia High School (7 Sophomores and 8 Juniors), participated in a Model UN Conference at New York University.
Montclair State University's African Drumming Ensemble had Seth Boyden School’s staff, students and community members on their feet dancing and drumming their way into the start of something new!
