Message from the Director:
As we embark on the 2023-2024 academic school year and continue to transition into a post-COVID world, our district remains firmly committed to the pursuit of excellence. This commitment extends beyond academic achievement to the crucial imperative of promoting equity by identifying and dismantling institutional practices, policies, and barriers that may obstruct student success.
At the heart of our mission is the recruitment and development of a highly effective workforce, and the Human Resources Department is at the forefront of this endeavor. With a student population exceeding 7,000, our Human Resources Department plays a central role in the recruitment and hiring of more than 800 district employees, spanning both professional and support service positions. Our dedicated team ensures that all employees meet stringent state and federal compliance requirements.
Our overarching goal is to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness, aligning our efforts with the broader objectives of our school system. Through these collective endeavors, we aspire to drive academic excellence, ultimately resulting in high student achievement and the delivery of highly effective teaching.
Recognizing the pivotal role of human resources in any organization, we affirm that the School District of South Orange and Maplewood is fundamentally a "people business," serving our students, staff, and the community at large. The mission of our Human Resources Department is to attract, hire, and retain passionate, qualified, and talented individuals. These individuals are instrumental in educating and supporting our students, bringing with them not only strong collaborative planning and performance assessment skills but also a deep commitment to multicultural education.
We are dedicated to partnering with other district administrators and the Board of Education to align our efforts with the vision, mission, and goals of the School District of South Orange and Maplewood. Our responsibilities encompass a wide range of functions; together, we aspire to foster an environment where all individuals can thrive, learn, and contribute to the continued growth and success of our educational community.
