Option 2

The 2022-2023 Option 2 form is currently accepting applications for Q1 (FALL SPORTS / ACTIVITIES ). The deadline to apply is JULY 1, 2022.

Please find additional information regarding Option 2 below:

According to the state of New Jersey, Option 2 allows students to earn credit through an alternative pathway. At Columbia High School, this is currently only available for CHS Robotics Club Members to fulfill 21st Century Life & Careers credits and for competitive athletes to fulfill Physical Education credits. Specific criteria are outlined in the option 2 packet available from the club’s advisor and/or the building principal.

  • Students who are approved for the Robotics option will receive a grade of P and 2.5 21st Century Life & Careers credits upon successful completion of course requirements.

  • Students who are approved for the competitive athletics option will receive a grade of P and 1.25 Physical Education credits for one quarter and students may apply for up to two quarters. The student will be placed in a study hall during their Physical Education period for the quarter(s). Students should apply for Physical Education Option 2 for 22-23 in June 2022 with the specific season(s) they intend to participate. The application will be posted on the CHS Counseling website. For a winter sport, you can apply for Option 2 for EITHER Q2 or Q3. Please note, Option 2 PE is not applicable for Health/Driver’s Education which is automatically assigned to a student and cannot be changed.

For the 2022-2023 school year, students should apply in June 2022 using form which will become available in June on the CHS Athletics website, but must apply for Physical Education Option 2 for:

  • - QUARTER 1 (Fall sports) by submitting the form by July 1, 2022.
  • - QUARTER 2 (Winter sports) by submitting the form by October 29, 2022.
  • - QUARTER 3 (Winter sports, only if you are not already opting out for Q2 for the same winter sport) by submitting the form by January 21, 2023.
  • - QUARTER 4 (Spring sports) by submitting the form by April 1, 2023.

*For a winter sport, you can apply for Option 2 for EITHER Q2 or Q3.

Please note, Option 2 PE is not applicable for Health/Driver’s Education which is automatically assigned to a student and cannot be changed:

  • Grade 10 - Driver Ed scheduled for Q1
  • Grade 12 - Health 12 scheduled for Q2
  • Grade 11 - Health 11 scheduled for Q3
  • Grade 9 - Health 9 scheduled for Q4
