Ms. Alyna Jacobs

Alyna Jacobs has had the honor to serve as the Principal of South Mountain School since 2016. She grew up in South Orange, and is a proud graduate of South Mountain School, South Orange Middle School, and Columbia High School. As a parent of current South Mountain School students, Principal Jacobs and her family love the school at the center of this wonderful community.
Jacobs earned a BA in Art History from Rutgers College, and subsequently completed her MA in International Education from New York University and a MS in Education from Brooklyn College; as a NYC public school teacher, she earned her National Board Certification and was one of forty NYC public school teachers to be selected to join New York City Leadership Academy’s prestigious “Leadership Advancement Program.” She served as an Assistant Principal at an elementary school in Brooklyn, serving one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. In Brooklyn, Jacobs was an educator who lived and worked in her own neighborhood school as a teacher, staff developer and then as an Assistant Principal. The experience of working at a school in her own community illustrated the emotional investment that comes with the territory of being a community-based educator. After spending more than a decade living and working in Brooklyn, she moved back to South Orange with her family. She has relished the opportunity to return to being a community based educator at South Mountain School.
