New Clinton Assistant Principal Sandra Smith

New Assistant Principal, Sandra Smith, with Clinton Principal Ann Bodnar.

The Board of Education appointed Sandra Smith as Clinton’s new Assistant Principal on Monday, April 23, 2018.  Ms. Smith has been an elementary school teacher in SOMSD since 2006 and has a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University.  Ms. Smith will complete this year with her fourth grade class at Seth Boyden, and will begin her new role as Assistant Principal of Clinton in July 2018.

After the Board approved her appointment, Ms. Smith expressed her excitement about joining Clinton school:

Dr. Ficarra, Mr. Walston, Dr. Rando, Members of the Board of Education, thank you for your vote of confidence in appointing me the Assistant Principal of Clinton Elementary School.

Thank you, Principal Bodnar, for this opportunity to work with you, the faculty and staff at Clinton School.

You and your staff have created a true family environment at Clinton that is academically strong and culturally inclusive.  Everyone in the school knows that they are important.  Everyone knows that they matter.  Creativity is also celebrated at Clinton, as can be seen in the wide variety of programs and activities offered.  These enhance the learning experience, and I can’t wait to get involved!  It is a student centered environment where students thrive, love to learn, and take responsibility for their learning.  As a passionate learner who believes in rigor with measured results, innovation, student leadership, and student enthusiasm and joy in the classroom, I am thrilled to be the newest member of this dynamic community!

Most importantly, I am eager to begin working with the school’s families and others in the community.  It is important for all stakeholders to be involved in the educational process to have a school that is truly successful.  Here, it is not just a cliché, but the tone of the school. Last, but not least, I am especially looking forward to building relationships with the children who attend Clinton School.  The students I have met have been respectful, inquisitive, hardworking, and enthusiastic.  Excellent students! Excellent young people!  I eagerly anticipate meeting the whole student body and assisting them as they learn and grow.

Again, thank you for this opportunity!
