New Tuscan Assistant Principal Appointed

Board Appoints Brad Bertani New Assistant Principal of Tuscan School

tuscan The Board of Education approved Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas Ficarra’s recommendation of Mr. Brad Bertani to serve as the new Assistant Principal of Tuscan Elementary School.  Mr. Bertani received a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from William Patterson University.  He presently works at Denville Township Schools, where he serves as the Principal of the Extended School Year program, and as a fifth grade teacher.  Mr. Bertani has been described as an effective leader with a strong command of integrating technology into learning and organizational management, and outstanding communications skills.

Upon accepting the appointment, Mr. Bertani said:

I would like to begin by thanking the board for inviting me here tonight.

Education is a second career for me.  I was in sales for a number of years before pursuing my true passion – education.  I began my education career as a one-to-one aide in a middle school, and transitioned to a fifth grade teacher half way through that first year.  Over my nine-year teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach fourth and fifth grade, co-teach with incredible special education teachers, work as the math club advisor, and lead my grade level team.

This past school year, I held the role of administrative leader for my district’s Sustainable Jersey initiative, for which each of our schools received the Bronze certification.  Over the summer, I had the honor of funning my district’s Extended School Year, and worked closely with the administrators, staff, parents and students to ensure the success of all children.  Working with this diverse population of students gave me the opportunity to see how important it is to build connections between all stakeholders.  This helped shape my administrative approach, which has one central focus in mind: we all work toward and for what is best for the student.

I believe in a collaborative leadership style that will include SOMSD’s amazing educators, administration, students, parents and community.

I am very excited to join SOMSD.  When I saw the opening in this district, I jumped at the chance to be part of the history of success which you all represent. I was overjoyed to receive word that I would be joining this amazing district, and I am excited learn, teach, and be a part of Tuscan Elementary School.  I look forward to meeting the rest of the Tuscan staff, and sharing my skills, knowledge and experience while learning alongside them.  I am most excited to meet the Tuscan students, about whom I have heard rave reviews.

Tonight, I want to thank the Board, Dr. Ficarra, and Mr. Walston for the opportunity to work for and with this amazing, diverse, student-centered district.  I also want to thank the members of the interview committee, especially Ms. Majeed.  Throughout the interview process, they represented the qualities that make SOMSD schools great.

I look forward to joining Ms. Majeed and the rest of the Tuscan family.  Together, we will continue to help every student succeed not just at Tuscan, but throughout their lives.

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome!
