Let’s Move, Clinton School!

By Ann Bodnar, Principal

At Clinton School we ensure that our students have opportunities to be physically active before, during and after school.

Before school, our students have the opportunity to play organized activities through hosted by the YMCA.

During the school day, students have Physical Education 2 times a week for 50 minutes. Our Physical Education curriculum, SPARK paired with our two Physical Education Teachers, provide students with many opportunities and activities so that they can be active, healthy and most knowledgeable that they can be.

When students are not in Physical Education, they are still very active. Our teachers provide frequent brain breaks by getting the students up and moving outside for a quick walk or through the website, “Go Noodle ,” where students can watch and move to the interactive video on the screen.

Our students have a 30 minute recess everyday which also adds to the many minutes of physical activities in their day. Students have the opportunity to use our playground, blacktop and field during recess. Our lunch aids have received professional development in order to provide our students with organized games during their recess time.

After school, the ACHIEVE foundation funds our enrichment program. Students can choose which enrichment they would like to be a part of.  There are enrichment opportunities Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so that our students can be creative and active after school.

There is a Girls on the Run program lead by volunteer teachers as well.

Our 5th graders have the opportunity to ride their bikes to school in the nice weather.

We encourage our students to go home and play and we teach them throughout the year the things that they can do with their friends or families outside or around the house with little or no equipment.

Every month, students are sent home a school newsletter that provides a calendar for each month and each day has a physical activity that the students/families can do at their homes.

This year a 5th grade class will be equipped with a kinesthetic classroom curtesy of Kidsfit and the PEP grant.  This will include desktop stationary bicycles, balancing machines, rowers, balancing chairs etc.
