We Miss Our Students
Recognizing how hard this school closure has been for students, it admittedly has also been hard for staff members as well. On April 6th, Marshall staff members published a "We Miss You" video message specifically for our students. Please know that our feelings have not changed...we miss them tremendously. April Character Trait - Initiative
Our April character trait was introduced to students: INITIATIVE. It means doing things without being told to do them. Rosie Revere, Engineer written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts was introduced as the Principal's Book of the Month. A character named Rosie demonstrated how she showed initiative with her inventions. She saw a need and began to create. It was explained to students that they can show initiative in their every day lives by doing things without being told like picking up their toys or cleaning their rooms. Please have your child learn more about initiative and enjoy the read aloud of Rosie Revere, Engineer on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5yxcBUvRgc&t=153s.
The Marshall Recycled Hat Parade
Earth Day is the world's largest environmental movement. It is always recognized on April 22nd and was first celebrated in 1970. To honor the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Marshall School had a virtual hat parade. Students were invited to use items they had in their homes to create hats. They used paper plates, boxes, bottles, tissue/towel roles, plastic, tin foil, and any other materials of their choosing to create their recycled hats. They then submitted pictures for our virtual recycled hat parade. We were in awe of their creativity! Did you miss the parade? Bash the Trash - Remote Assembly
Thanks to our generous PTA, students were treated to an assembly titled Bash the Trash. Initially scheduled to be an in-school program, the PTA decided to present it remotely. With the help of Director of Technology Keith Bonds, families were provided with a link to log in and enjoy the assembly in their homes. Formed by the husband-and-wife creative team of John Bertles and Carina Piaggio, Bash the Trash builds, performs, and educates viewers with musical instruments made from reused and repurposed materials while combining science, music, and environmental awareness into their performances. Students were encouraged to join in the fun in the end and make music of their own! We hope they enjoyed the program.
