Preschool Enrollment

- Acceptance letters were sent out on July 8 via email to all families who were selected from our preschool lottery. Please check the email address you entered when completing the district's enrollment process. While we were unable to place all students from this year's lottery list, please know that the South Orange and Maplewood school district remains committed to our preschool expansion initiative.
- At this time, we have reached our anticipated capacity in our program for the 2022-2023 school year. If you did not receive an acceptance letter, this means that your child will remain on the waiting list. Families on the waiting list will only be notified via email if and when additional seats become available. Please be advised that providing individual numbers on the waiting list is not a practice of the District, as this may lead to miscommunication and confusion in this fluid process. We appreciate your continued interest in our preschool program!

- Please be advised that the South Orange and Maplewood School District will utilize a lottery system to help determine placement for the 2022-2023 school year. Only families who have completed the enrollment process will be eligible to participate in the preschool lottery. Please review the SOMSD Preschool FAQs for additional questions regarding the lottery process.
- As a reminder, the enrollment process is not considered complete until all necessary documents are provided. Please be advised that the preschool department will NOT be able to confirm enrollment status. It is imperative that you include your email address when filling out the online registration form, as this is the method of communication the preschool department utilizes when notifying families of acceptance and placement decisions. At this time, we do not have an anticipated date as to when the preschool lottery will be conducted. However, that information will be shared on the Preschool Department section of the District’s website once it’s available. Families who have been accepted into our program via the lottery system will be notified via email.
- Eligible students will be enrolling for an opportunity to attend the Universal Preschool Program with placement at various sites throughout the District
- Placement will be based on the availability of seats (a lottery will be held if the number of applicants exceeds the number of available seats)
- Waitlisted students will be placed as seats become available
- “Sibling Preference” applies to students who will be seated in the preschool program for the 2020-2021 school year. (“Sibling Preference” is when a child is enrolled in the same site/school for the 2020-2021 school year, the District will place the sibling at the same location, as long as there is space to accommodate the sibling and there are no restrictions with the placement).
