SOMSD Integration Initiative
Intentional Integration and Innovation
Spearheaded by the office of the Superintendent, the SOMSD Integration Initiative (SII) focuses on equity and access, including developing an integration plan that ensures that the student populations in each of our schools are reflective of our district’s diversity, and on fostering innovation in our elementary schools.
Working with leading scholars, a committee elementary school principals, administrators, staff, members, teachers, students, and parents, we strive to create an educational environment in which all students and staff are fully supported, engaged, and working for excellence and equity in all areas of schooling in our district. Together, they are working to reimagine instruction, particularly elementary instruction, focused on innovation and socio-economic equity.
The final goal of this initiative is to ensure that all of our schools are welcoming and engaging learning environments, with a strong foundation in cultural competency and equity, so that each and every student is challenged, inspired and supported to develop their potential as learners and citizens.
We look forward to continued engagement with you around this work, and around our shared values of equity, excellence, and opportunity for all students in SOMSD. More community conversations and events around this work will be scheduled over the course of the 2020 school year. Below are dates for upcoming events:
