After the Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Ficarra as Interim Superintendent, Dr. Ficarra introduced himself, and shared his excitement about joining SOMSD, and his philosophy about the work to be done.
Five SOMS 8th Grade students won the Grand Prize in the Documentary category in the Montclair Film Festival Emerging Film Makers competition.
At a special meeting on June 7, 2017, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Thomas Ficarra as Interim Supintendent of Schools. He will join the staff as Acting Superintendent on August 1, and then become Interim Superintendent August 25.

This project was inspired by an initiative of Ms. Stewart’s 1st grade class at Marshall last year.
