Five SOMS 8th Grade students won the Grand Prize in the Documentary category in the Montclair Film Festival Emerging Film Makers competition.
The event is sponsored by the North Jersey School Music Association and is comprised of fourth through sixth grade students from the area.
South Orange Middle School (SOMS) students are making a community impact with 8th grade Social Studies teacher Stephanie Rivera’s after school club, Students for Social Change.
During the 7th grade Social Studies unit on sustainability, students were asked to explore the concept of population growth and its impact on water supply, forests and public health.
Fifty-two students were excited, engaged, collaborative and industrious during the 3-day conference.
South Orange Middle School celebrated its second schoolwide “Winter Blast of Kindness” Day last week — and the entire school felt like one big celebration.
SOMS is focused on bringing that artwork to the attention of students and visitors.
Through the process of inquiry and experiential learning (field work project) Mr. Anthony Cicenia’s 7th grade Life Science students were able enhance their knowledge of our local watershed and the importance of preserving and restoring the ecosystem.
Saffron Payne, won First Place in NJ, and Hudson Hassler and Ethan Goldman both received an Honorable Mention.
Ellen Hark a teacher at SOMS is the selected recipient of the Sister Rose Thering Award at this year’s Interfaith Holocaust Memorial Service.
