The students and families were asked to “let someone less fortunate march a mile in their shoes.” The goal was not only to beat their record of 500 pairs in 2013, but to raise awareness that families just a few miles from our doorstep are literally shoeless. Thanks to the support of the phenomenal South Mountain families, shoes came streaming into the kindergarten room by the dozens! From boots to flip flops, sneakers to heels, they collected it all for hundreds of happy feet in Elizabeth, N.J. At the end of the two week drive, the team had sorted, counted, paired and bagged 1,280 pairs of shoes!
