The students in South Mountain’s Annex celebrated Read Across America Day with real celebrity readers! Twenty peer leaders, from Columbia High School, boarded a bus, dressed in a variety of cat costumes, and arrived at the Annex, welcomed by cheering students. The high school students shared some of their favorite childhood books with the kindergarten and first grade students. Ms. Judy Cohen from CHS, the peer leader teacher accompanied her students, along with Karen Weiland, the Director of the district Parenting Center. New friendships were formed, and the students of South Mountain saw that there are real reading celebrities right here in their own town!
