The School District of South Orange-Maplewood was awarded the Carol M. White Physical Education for Progress Grant from the US Department of Education in July, 2009.  

The Carol M. White Physical Education Program provides grants to LEAs and community-based organizations (CBOs) to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education programs, including after-school programs, for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Grant recipients must implement programs that help students make progress toward meeting state standards.

The amount awarded is $1.25 million dollars over 3 years. This year’s allocation is $306,182.65
The major focus of the PEP grant in Year 3 is the redesigning of the Project Adventure course at Columbia HS. The anticipated completion of theproject will occur in the Spring of 2012. More information regarding this matter and trainings associated with the new course will be relayed here in the furture.
